Back to the Future--Nazareth meets Poland meets Chicago O'Hare--October 5

October 5, 2014

After our Thanksgiving Feast, we went for a nice walk through the neighborhood, ending up at the Church of the Nativity.  It was quieter that afternoon than the first time we visited.  As we were at the crypt of the birth, a group of pilgrims came through with great reverence.  They started singing a song, and we recognized it as the beloved Polish Christmas lullaby, "Lullajzhe Jezu Nyue"--the same carol that the Christus Chorus sang for the beleaguered Polish people in 2000 when we were all stranded together at Chicago's O'Hare airport--a song that, by those Pole's own words and actions, "brought peace."   Their song did the same for us, giving a wonderful connection to the past in this far away land.
