Day 3 in Jordan

September 23--This was a huge day--all devoted to sight-seeing and travel.  We left early from Amman and drove to Petra, the fabulous Nabatean ruins (from three or four centuries before and after the time of Christ), iconically famous from a scene in one of the Indiana Jones movies(photos below of "The Treasury" (we don't exactly look like Harrison Ford):

After a great Lebanese lunch with Khader, we moved on to the Wadi Rum for a short visit.  We took an unplanned trip in the back of a 4x4 into this desert wilderness made famous by T.E. Lawrence in "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" and dramatized in the movie "Lawrence of Arabia."

Our Bedouin driver (no, really)
We continued that night and checked into a hotel in Aqaba at the southern tip of Jordan on the Red Sea (after Khader drove around asking people where it was for an hour--one of the places we were directed to was a fish market. . .)
