Day 6--moving into Bethlehem

September 28

Our little two-room apartment is located on Star Street in Bethlehem, up the hill from busy Manger Street.  It is one of the oldest streets in Bethlehem, and is in a Catholic neighborhood close to a school and not far from Bethlehem University, a Lassallean school.  (Strolling by BU, we met Father Peter, originally from New York, who showed us around and invited us to their Monday night choir rehearsal).  We are pleased that there is an iron cross above our front door.   If we step out our front door and turn right, eventually we pass under an archway.  Though the archway has been rebuilt many times, it is said to be the gate through which Mary and Joseph entered Bethlehem.  Further along (about 4-5 blocks from our apartment) we come to Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity.
